If the guy is simply fishing with words as bait then he might embark on a mass complimenting strategy.

He might try to compliment every girl in the room or at a party with the hope of striking gold with at least one girl. You should ignore such complimentary pests that usually attend such parties.

He could try to study your response
A guy might be besotted by you and might compliment you in a bid to study your response.

If you do like him then you are sure to respond with a shy smile and a shy compliment in return, which in turn would bolster his spirits.

A really serious guy will compliment you from his soul. He might also avoid throwing cheap compliments on your body but might compliment you on your style or attitude.
